Carlos Martinez

Carlos Martinez (he/him) is President of People First Economy, where he is a firm believer in the power of creating an inclusive, equitable, and circular economy deeply rooted in community care. This starts by supporting the People First team as we empower local entrepreneurs to transform their businesses into Forces for Good while nurturing sustainable practices that drive their growth.

A local business owner with a background in economic development and higher education, Carlos brings practical insight and a people-first approach to supporting entrepreneurs. He is a proud Grand Rapids Public Schools graduate and holds degrees from Michigan State University and Grand Valley State University.

Halla Maas

Halla Maas (she/her) is a lifelong Michigander and has called Grand Rapids home for the past two years. She rejoined People First Economy in 2024 and leads engagement strategies across events and signature initiatives. Previously, Halla supported the team as Experience Manager, managing social media and event programming. Dr. Danielle Cato

Dr. Danielle Cato (she/her) is a Detroit-based leader with dual doctoral degrees in Counseling and Psychology. She advances organizational success by strengthening systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, and championing community health standards. Through her motivational platforms, women’s support group, and published work, Dr. Cato is deeply committed to community engagement and sustainability. An active member of professional networks, including the Detroit Black Chamber of Commerce, she leads with resilience, innovation, and service.

Alice Jasper

Alice Jasper (she/they) is a Multiracial-Black sustainability professional and outdoor enthusiast. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Alice relocated to Michigan where she attended college in the Upper Peninsula before putting down roots in Grand Rapids. Today, Alice serves as the Senior Program Manager of our organization. Their passions reside with our Good For Michigan program; a state-wide economic development initiative that centers social and environmental sustainability and convenes Michigan’s B Corp Certified business community.
