This year, People First Economy is excited to honor Miss Kim’s Jams/Madison Closet and Farms with The Good For Supply Chain Award! This award is born from our collaboration with the MEDC (Michigan Economic Development Corporation) and Pure Michigan Business Connect. Pure Michigan Business Connect (PMBC) delivers a suite of services to help diversify and strengthen the supply chain of Michigan businesses. This award takes a comprehensive view of the categories measured in B Impact Assessment and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Action Manager Tools to assess Good For Michigan participants who perform highest across the board and how their operations take into account the sourcing of materials needed to produce their products.
Based in Howell, Michigan, Miss Kim’s Jams/Madison Closet and Farm began when its owner, Kim Pendygraft wanted to learn how to make her own jams free of dyes and chemical additives. Driven by a desire to build a business that would allow her more time to spend with family, Miss Kim’s Jams/Madison’s Closet and Farm is now a family run enterprise specializing in small batch, slow cooked jams, homemade pie fillings, gourmet old fashion-style lollipops, kosher dill pickles and more! Pendygraft strives to build a socially and environmentally sustainable supply chain by not only prioritizing Michigan-based suppliers, but also by partnering with Michigan-based retailers to sell her products,
“It’s simple math we keep the money in a circle that keeps going around all over Michigan, I go to suppliers that are Michigan based with employees that live in Michigan, I make a product that is sold in Michigan stores that have employed Michigan residents.
My definition of being Good For Michigan is exactly what I been saying creating a product that we all benefit from, from the Michigan farmers that grow the produce, to the distributor or packing plant, to the value added maker and to the retailer that sells the products we all win”.
Over this past year Miss Kim’s Jams/Madison Closet and Farms participated in a collaborative program between Good For Michigan and PMBC to support companies with measuring, improving and celebrating sustainable supply chain impacts by engaging with B Impact Assessment and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Action Manager Tools. You can find their products in select Meijer stores, Argus (Ann Arbor), Peoples Co-op (Ann Arbor), Detroit Peoples Co-op (Detroit) and Agricole (Chelsea) (check out their website for a list of all retail locations!).
“My goal for my business is to be in 50 additional Meijer stores by the end of 2025…The more stores that my product line is in the more jobs are created, the more demand for the use of Michigan Suppliers creating a great economy”. – Kim Pendygraft
Congratulations to Miss Kim’s Jams/Madison Closet and Farm for winning the 2024 Good For Supply Chain Award! And thank you for being Good For Michigan!
